Funky Business

It’s time to get funky up in here! I am beyond blessed that I get to wear whatever I want to work everyday; however, I realize the uniqueness of my situation and that most people aren’t that lucky. Having more strict guidelines at your 9-5 doesn’t mean your outfits have to feel mundane or stale. This outfit for example, has a business feel, but encompasses a few details that you don’t ordinarily see in a business casual outfit. It is so easy to add in one or two details that spice up an outfit and bring out the rebel in us all!

1. Mixing prints: Mixing prints and colors is not as scary as it looks, and once you master the skill, stopping is nearly impossible. Personally I’m addicted, but thats another story for another day. Start with something simple, like black and white stripes and gingham similar to what I did with this outfit. Adding in these prints/colors will give a little flavor and diversity to your typical black pant and white shirt ensemble.

2. Layering: Change out that old faithful cardigan that you wear over your button up for a sheer overlay! Most people I meet have a total disinterest in anything sheer and hold it up with two fingertips as if it smells and say, “What are you supposed to do with this”? The answer is, layer! Layer your little hearts out! Take that amazing piece of sheer material and layer if over a fun print or colored shirt, and knock the socks off your office crush. Don’t be ashamed, we all have one. 😉

3. Accessorize: Don’t be afraid to play around with jewelry! There are plenty of pieces you can add to your outfit that are fun but still sophisticated and chic. I personally love wearing crazy colorful earrings, but wear whatever makes you happy and confident!

I wore a uniform everyday for nine years while I was in Law Enforcement, so I understand how horribly boring it is to be restricted to a dress code. There are infinite ways to push the envelope a little while still respecting your employers wishes. My way was wearing crazy colored nail polish which I’m sure my sergeants hated, but what can I say, I’m a rebel!

Affectionately, Audrey ❤
